Why you can't be "a little" Maudsley

If Maudsley works:

Why do we stop thinking "the disease is controlling the sufferer" after they turn 21?

If Maudsley works:

Why is full nutrition optional after 21?

If Maudsley works:

Why are parents at fault for sufferers over 21?

If Maudsley works:

Why are sufferers given the choice whether or not to cooperate after 21?

If Maudsley works:

Why does insight have to come before behavior change in adults?

I don't know Laura but, wouldn't it be wonderful if all parents and caretakers were able to have the insight to 'get it', to actually understand that even if there was something more to be worked on that FULL nutrition restored will put them in the best place to deal with anything life throws their way. And that allowing them to hit bottom so they will cry "help me" is not fair to them. You're getting there. There are so many wise parents and people with ED's paving the way.

  2. Oh Maudsley DOES work. In MOST (c80%) of cases. BUT "straight from the manual, parents HAVE to take control" doesn't ALWAYS work (not knocking it for that, nothing does, not aspirin, not open heart surgery, not bone setting) and, especially when the patient is older the law, society and her ability either to engage with the help offered or reject it makes a difference.

Can you be a "little Maudsley"? In terms of believing that parents shouldn't abandon their children (of whatever age) to the professionals and have no influence, then NO WAY, but in terms of what you do about the actual eating? Well Janet Treasure seems to manage it quite well. http://www.iop.kcl.ac.uk/IoP/Departments/PsychMed/EDU/Carers.shtml

This really hit home with me, in regard to how I have had to change to help my son autistic son, Charlie---though I also think, some of the insight came while I was in the process of "changing my own behavior" to teach Charlie.
