Father wants answers on his daughter's death from anorexia nervosa

Averil Hart
help her dad find answers on her death
I met Nic Hart in London when I was there earlier this year for the EDIC conference. He spoke movingly to that audience of his desire to understand the treatment his daughter received, or failed to receive, before her death. Averill was 19 when she died in 2012. Her family wants answers about why. Mr. Hart and his family and supporters are asking for our help, the parent community that knows the agony and heartbreak of an eating disorder diagnosis, in spreading the word so that the Harts can get the answers they need from the health system charged with her care.

Please visit Averil's site, and subscribe to the blog. Re-tweet and subscribe to Nic's handle, @AverilsDad  Spread the word around the world to let the Harts know that they are not alone, that others care, and that at the very least there should be clear answers from those involved.

  1. so incredibly sad and tragic. I will do a post on my blog http://dontlivesmall.com/blog in remembrance of Averil and the treatment that she failed to receive that took her from her loving family

  2. I live near to the UEA & although I am under a different trust; kinda, the similarities are most definitely there. The cut backs & destruction of services continue & that's incredibly scary for all of those involved; carer, patient & probably some professionals too... I know that there is nothing that I can ever say that will make any of this easier for any of you, but I send my love & I truly hope you get the answers you need & deserve.

  3. Becky, you make a good point. I am sure that very few if any of the professionals involved in services are happy with the way that services are being cut either. The NHS failed Averil because the NHS is the system in which Averil lived and died. Other systems in other countries fail far too many too. The whole system, world wide, is inadequate

  6. In my view, this isn't about any particular health system. The NHS is like any insurance or health scheme: apportioning resources. In the US we lack any system AT ALL. I believe we all deserve answers and accountability because that is how systems change.

  7. How coincidental that before I read your most recent post, I blogged on the work that needs to be done to increase the understanding by all of what is effective in the treatment of eating disorders, ranging from the importance of data collection to evidence-based/documented treatment.
