Stop

Please take a moment.

A moment to think of a mother who last night in Scotland had to walk away from her 16-year old daughter's body in a hospital and go home to a life without her.

We cannot hide from this. Not in anger, or in fear, or impatience. This is why we're doing what we're doing: families, doctors, therapists, dieticians, friends, activists. Another horrible tragedy deserves at least a moment to reflect on what we're doing and why we do it. A moment to resolve to prevent as many of these moments as we can and celebrate all the ways people are reaching out to one another to help.

  1. I hope you don't mind Laura, I posted the link to your blog on my Facebook page. I'm fairly close to Scotland and it just breaks my heart to think of that poor girl and her family. I wish there was more I could do to help people understand just what eating disorders are. It's frustrating and so sad. Thank you for doing what you do, I'm sure there would be even more tragedies like these if you weren't there to support and educate people going through the same thing with their families.

  2. i read the story. Heartbreaking for the family, and discouraging for the rest of us. I hope so much that there are less and less stories like this. I also wish nothing more than for that family to heal from the pain they must be feeling now. I hope so much that they are ok.

  3. Just seeing this now, but the sting and the heartache is just as strong.

Why? There never will be an answer.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family, and all families out there who have experienced such a tragic loss. And to all those who fought/are fighting...
