Call Alex today

I'm packing for a funeral. A dear friend has died, neither early nor late, neither tragic nor with pain.

Last year, after going far too many years and allowing too many petty things prevent it, I got in touch and said I was coming to town. We had a lovely meal - one that reminded me of the countless meals during which he fed me and challenged me and made me a good bit of who I am. When I say he was 'like a father to me' I do so as not to make my other two worthy fathers feel bad. He was, at times, a father to me.

We had a table of family and friends and talk and food and laughter and at some point I insisted on making an embarrassing scene of my gratitude and joy at seeing him. He got to hear what he meant to me, and to the life I am so lucky to lead. I got to hear him say he was proud of me. That is my last memory of Alex.

Call your Alex.

  3. Laura, I don't always comment but I always read your blog-you are more then an inspiration, you truly make me believe in the power of Maudsley-something I want to practice one day.
    MORE IMPORTANTLY-
I am SO, SO, SO very sorry for your loss. Someone so good and caring should not have to suffer losing someone dear, but as Gwen and Marcella said, I am so glad you had the chance to tell him how much he meant to you before he passed-though I am sure he knows it. (I am keeping the beginning of my comment in because I think you also need to be reminded of how amazing you are, and what amazing work you do). My heart is with you. Breathe and hug those close.
    XO

  5. Laura,

I am so sorry for your loss as I know and understand your sadness and pain. I just lost my dad two weeks ago but had the great fortune of spending time with him only three weeks ago to celebrate his 73rd Birthday. It gives me great comfort in knowing what good spirits he was in and very gratiful we expressed our Love for one another. His passing was what most of us pray for, in his sleep, fast and without prolonged suffering... Keeping you in My Thoughts and Prayers, Denise
