anti-Maudsley prejudice

If you ask this question of the researchers and leading clinicians, the answer is clear: the Family-Based Maudsley approach to eating disorder recovery is the only approach with evidence to support its use in adolescent anorexia, and is recommended as the first line of treatment in professional guidelines all over the world.

But we have a lot of work to do to do when it comes to public understanding of the illness.
"No, the family dysfunction in eating disorders must be emphasized, not downplayed." got 25%.
"What is the Maudsley Method" got even more: 29%.

  5. I'm curious, Marcella: is "doh" said with an American accent, or is the the same in British English?

  6. I get the feeling that many clinicians just don't keep up on the research. Of my d's original team of 4, one had heard of Maudsley, but didn't practice it, and the rest were clueless and asked me to point them to websites, etc.

It is so frustrating but, I think like other illnesses repetition is the key. The more parents and families speak up, mainstream medical practitioners will start to notice and change their tune...I hope.
