The Map Ahead: F.E.A.S.T. Symposium in Old Town Alexandria, November 3-4 2011

I'm pinching myself! No, not self-harm: I'm just beside myself that I got to speak today with Ruth Sullivan, a mother who is a role model for us all. Sullivan, who has accepted our invitation to speak at The Map Ahead: F.E.A.S.T. Symposium in Old Town Alexandria, November 3-4 2011, sees, as I do, the parallels between what happened with autism and what needs to happen with eating disorders.

Parents need to not only throw off the guilt and marginalization we need to get active. We need to stand up for our dear loved ones by pressing for more research, better treatment, access to care. We need to stand up for the role of families in treatment and in advocacy.

I look forward to learning from and being inspired by Ruth Sullivan on November 3!!

**Thank you to Jennifer, on our program committee, for making the introduction!

  1. It will be great to hear what Ruth Sullivan has to say!

  2. I'd like to hear Ruth Sullivan too... Shame that:

    1. I cannot afford to travel to the USA to hear this.

    2. I have flying phobia (actually travelling phobia; well actually any-change-of-routine-phobia...).

Can you video some of the event Laura?

  3. We are hoping to livestream parts of the event, actually, and record it for our members to experience later. We're working on the financing - applying for grants, getting quotes, working on the software. It is very important to me that this event include people all over the world!

If anyone reading this wants to help, donations and technical consulting and donation of services are WARMLY WELCOMED:

  4. Livestream... Awesome :)

  5. Cathy, I can't afford to go either although I'd love to, so I invite you to join me in experiencing it all virtually. I am going to book the time off work, get the freezer stocked with frozen meals and take two literal duvet days when I intend to watch it all unfold from the comfort of my sofa.

  6. Sounds a good plan Marcella. Perhaps there could be opportunity for Skype discussions for those of us who cannot attend?

  7. Skype/twitter or other method is planned!
