"dying to hear more voices"

Oh, Carrie - this is priceless. PRICELESS!**

"Schizophrenia is not dying to hear more voices, and depression isn't dying to be sad. Diabetes isn't dying for higher blood sugar, and cancer isn't dying for a larger tumor. An anorexic isn't starving for perfection and they're not dying to fit in. They're just starving and dying. And the sooner we can strip away this false meaning, the better we can get aggressive treatment and nutrition for the people who need it the most."

Dear journalists: please try harder

**Notice I didn't say "perfection." I would, but it might sound pathologically hyperbolic!

  1. That is truly perfect. It needs to be said over and over and over: People with anorexia have an illness. It isn't a choice any more than any of those other things.

  2. I am a sucker for a catchy headline and title probably as much as anyone out there. But these will NEVER stop p*ssing me off. And "tweenorexia"? Makes me want to throw up, and things that trigger the gag reflex of a recovering ED patient are almost certainly a Very Bad Thing. (Okay, yes, it's sarcasm when my meds are kicking in- I apologize).

  4. Laura, I don't think you need an SSRI (selective sarcasm reuptake inhibitor).

All I know is I see your wit and think "I want what she's having!"
